Rotary International presented Polio Ambassador award to Oscar-Gramy winner A R Rahman at a function in Guindy on Saturday evening.
Speaking on the occasion, Rahman said, "I used to think Facebook was a waste of time. But when it was suggested that I open a Facebook account and upload videos of my rehearsals, I followed it and it helped me reach out to a huge user base of 22 million. It was through this page I started sharing awareness messages on polio."
Rahman attended the event immediately after he reached Chennai from the United Kingdom. On working with Mani Ratnam, he said the ace filmmaker gave him space to experiment beyond the requirements of the script.
"There have been occasions when I tried something out for myself, even it seemed outside the scope of the film. Sometimes, Mani Ratnam included them in the film. Dheivam Thantha Poove is one such attempt."
